Facility Inspections
We would like to point out that this nursing home's inspection score exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a B+ in this category, which is a quality score. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This place received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second best category was long-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the pack score in this category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.69325 percent of its patients. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's least impressive category is short-term care, which is the last area we analyzed. In this category, we gave this facility a D. In forming these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
