Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this very important category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its dominant profile, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care area. In fact, it received a grade of A in the category. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. When computing our nursing scores, we analyze both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The fourth category we looked at was short-term care, where this facility received a grade of B+. This rounded out a very strong profile. Very few facilities received a B+ or better in in each area we assessed. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
