To go along with its relatively modest overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also performed favorably in the category of long-term care, with an impressive score of A- in this area. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.32869 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.15 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this facility a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are considered to be more critical for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its abysmal rating in this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This was not a strength either for this nursing home. We found that just 47.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is below average.
The last category we analyzed was nursing. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is a poor score. This is certainly a significant disappointment. Our nursing rating is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
