Facility Inspections
Although this place's overall score is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable grade in the area of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this category, which is not bad. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an B-. Nursing scores are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a low total compared to most facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its next highest category score in the category of long-term care. We awarded this facility a B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored was short-term care, which ended up being a low point for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a D in short-term care. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
