Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home excelled in our short-term care category, with an impressive grade of A- in this area. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home's inspection score exceeded its overall score as well. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a B. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. We scrutinized the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in calculating our grade in this category. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving patients at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed was long-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's worst category. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 95.12195 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable total. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
