While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received a great long-term care grade. Indeed, it received one of our highest grades in that area with a grade of A. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 93.42629 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.75 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided a meager 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric.

The last category we assessed was short-term care, proved to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in that category. This was one of just a couple of dings of a strong profile. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in one of the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 36 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
