Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This place boasts a really impressive 5.5 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is among the better totals of nursing hours we were able to find. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this place performed as well as any facility California.
Long-term Care Quality
Among its many dominant grades, this nursing home received first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A in that area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.12195 percent of its patients, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Tallying another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an impressive grade of A-. Few facilities fared better in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our last category, this facility received an excellent short-term care grade. We gave it a B+ in that area, finishing off one of our more impressive profiles. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it was respectable in this area with 47 percent of its patients returning home.
