Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing score is based on a handful of components, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this statistic. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient more frequently.

Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that category. Unfortunately, this wound up being one of its better grades. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.7 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below average.

Our next area we looked at was long-term care, in which this nursing home received an F. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 92.20339 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is slightly lower than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.

In our final category of inspections, this facility received an F in this area. When a place has this poor of an inspection grade, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
