Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections are virtually flawless. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its strong assessment, this facility also received a strong short-term care score, with a score of A. With our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides roughly one and a half times as many hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 65.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. We assessed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of this total, more than one fourth of these hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. We apply more weight to hours provided by skilled nurses in determining our nursing ratings. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning a resident more often.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home also excelled in the long-term care category. We gave it a grade of A- in this category. This wrapped up truly elite report card. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 93.589745 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a few points less than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
