Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this place also performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received an elite grade of A in our short-term care area. In our short-term care grade, we try to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also would like to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a strong grade of A- in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to our next category, this nursing home was given a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in that area, topping off one of our more favorable profiles. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
