Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it earned an impressive grade of A-. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be a real strength for this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 65.6 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
Compounding its fine resume, this facility also received a superb long-term care grade, with a grade of A-. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 96.969696 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 1.73 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than most facilities due to it having more complex patients.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home also performed well in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area. This topped off a very impressive report card. Our nursing score is largely associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is higher than what is offered by most facilities. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any facility the state when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
