Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the facility's nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Another unfortunate development was the F this facility was given in the area of long-term care. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 78.76344 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit below what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is an abysmal grade. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Not surprisingly, we learned that this place offers far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
