While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. We believe that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 11 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an C. There are several criteria included in this category. Many of these subcategories relate to levels of nurse staffing. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place was above average in many of the major statistics we assessed, including minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

We were also surprised to discover that this facility earned a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of C in that area. In computing our long-term care ratings, we size up the assistance with daily living received by the facility's patients. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 80.05391 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit below what we expected. The last datapoint we assessed was its hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had a relatively high 3.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Neither its vaccination record nor its hospitalization rate were strengths for this nursing home in this category.

The final area we assessed is short-term care. This facility was given an abysmal grade of F in that area. Short-term care ratings are vital for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With its weak rating in this area, we were not surprised to find this facility provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The final statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 44 percent of its patients returning home.
