Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an B. Nursing scores are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a resident at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home received a B- in this area. With our short-term care grade, we seek to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in long-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category grade. Of course, this category pulled down the nursing home's overall grade to a certain degree. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 96.85535 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
