Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in this area with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a B in our short-term care category. This is one of our more favorable grades. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. It does not appear that this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area.

Long-term Care Quality

The last category we rated was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a B- in the area. In forming these long-term care grades, we quantify the facility's personal care services. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.01961 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
