This facility received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.67949 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility's third most favorable area turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B-. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

The final category we graded was nursing. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this area. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure as it is well below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a patient more frequently.
