One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In addition, this nursing home received elite marks in the category of short-term care. Consequently, it was given one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of A+. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is more often than not a fair measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Moving on to our final category, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care category. We gave it an A in that category. This topped off a straight A profile. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility provided data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
