Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this nursing home's overall score, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A-. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually turned out to be its second most favorable score. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 98.130844 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable percentage. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. When determining our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we scored was short-term care. We gave it an F in this category, which is a very poor grade. Short-term care grades are important for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. As you might expect, we discovered that this facility provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
