Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not high on this nursing home's overall score, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's second most favorable category was its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a grade of C. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. When determining our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, while this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this metric.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we scored was long-term care. We gave it an F in this category, which is a very poor grade. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 96.644295 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
