Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it earned a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of nursing, where it earned an C. Few facilities performed better in this area. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these to be reliable indicators of quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't grade out terribly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a C in that area, which wound up being among its more respectable scores. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.48718 percent of its residents. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.57 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was not quite as favorable than its other scores in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. With a score of this caliber for this category, we were not surprised to learn this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The nursing home offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 44 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
