Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a strong facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections is its best category. In this area, we awarded it an A+. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given an impressive long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better grades in that category with a score of B+. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 60.60606 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure as it is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning a patient more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of D in our short-term care category, leaving this as its weakest category grade. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
