Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a strong facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections is its best category. In this area, we awarded it an A+. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was given an impressive long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better grades in that category with a score of B+. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 61.58192 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our fourth category, this nursing home really did not perform very well. With an abysmal grade of F in that category, this was clearly its worst grade. Our short-term care grade is often employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the data we assessed. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
