Facility Inspections
While we didn't give this place a good overall score, we actually gave it a relatively strong grade in the category of inspections, where it earned a B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 9 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
We gave this facility just a D for our long-term care score and that actually turned out to be its second most respectable score. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 97.65625 percent of its patients, which is an above average total. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
