Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially want to point out its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Unfortunately, it does not look like we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. We wish we had more information about this nursing home. Without the deficiency related data, it is challenging to assess it in the area of inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to this nursing home's list of accomplishments, it also received a superb long-term care score. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. We looked at the licensure of nurses at the facility, as well as the number of hours those nurses spent with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving residents more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is short-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's worst area. We gave this facility a D in this area. Sadly, this grade pulled down the facility's overall profile to some degree. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. It appears that this place was subpar in many staffing areas we focus on. The facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
