Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this facility's better category scores was in the category of short-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. In our short-term care category, we endeavor to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were extremely impressed to find that this facility offers its residents substantially more physical therapist hours than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it performed respectably in this metric with 48.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. The nursing category consists of many datapoints, many of which are associated with nursing hours. With a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. This nursing home also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our next area, this facility really did not fare well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 60.000004 percent of its patients. This is several points below average. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
