In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also performed favorably in the area of long-term care, with a strong score of A- in this category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 93.169395 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing rating. We gave this facility an D. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Switching gears to our final area, we awarded this facility a D in the area of short-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category score. Naturally, this category hurt the facility's overall grade to some degree. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we discovered that this facility provides fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
