Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its relatively modest overall score, we awarded this facility an A- for its inspection grade. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. Nursing ratings are mostly based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This place averages 0 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is a very low figure. Finally, nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we assessed was short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a decent grade of C. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is generally a useful measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this also impacted quality of care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 3.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we scored is long-term care. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is a very poor score. This is certainly a significant concern. Long-term care scores in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 85.17745 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
