On top of earning a strong overall score, this facility performed even better in the area of inspections which is associated with the nursing home's recent government inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for this area, which is one of our best scores. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient health or safety. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses commit to patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.
