Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Part of the reason this place fared so well overall is that it excelled in the area of short-term care, with a grade of B+ in that category. It outpaced most facilities in this category. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received an B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection grades are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspections. Facilities that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. When calculating our nursing ratings, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we assessed is long-term care. For this category, we gave this facility a C. Our long-term care grades are based on a nursing home's amount of nursing services. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
