In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it received a grade of A-. Few facilities performed better in that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.

This facility also was awarded an impressive short-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this category. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

The final area we scored was long-term care. This nursing home was given a B- for this category. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we scrutinize the assistance with daily living received by a nursing home's patients. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.53271 percent of its patients, which is higher than most nursing homes. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
