Waukon, Iowa offers only two nursing homes to choose from, so you don't have too many options to choose from. The nursing homes here received a superb city grade of A-. Even with just a couple of facilities, this is still quite an accomplishment. In fact, this place's city grade was even better than the city grade of nursing homes in the local city of Winona. This is especially impressive in light of the fact that we gave those nursing homes in Winona a city grade of B+, which is a good grade in its own right. This city's strong report card was highlighted by its nursing homes' inspection grades, which is addressed in the next section.
In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, many of the facilities in Waukon performed remarkably well in our inspection category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for this category, which is one of our highest scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. In addition, the city also performed remarkably well in the area of long-term care, where we gave it an A- for that category. Rounding out its profile, we awarded the city favorable grades for our nursing and short-term care areas as well.
