While we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for short-term care. In calculating our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is more often than not a useful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This nursing home provides both registered nurses and physical therapists. Not all nursing homes offer these skilled professionals. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. It fared better than most facilities in this metric with 49.5 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

This place earned a grade of just D in the area of inspections. Unfortunately, this ended up being its second best grade. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. You should be more cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This particular nursing home had one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies found by the government inspectors had the potential to cause actual harm to residents. Finally, this facility also received 46 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. Quantity of nursing care is not the issue here with this facility's grade. This place actually provides an above average 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Despite performing well in terms of nursing hours, this facility didn't fare as well in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was above the national average in both of these statistics.

Turning to our next area, this nursing home really didn't perform well in this area either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in long-term care, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. Although we determined this facility has an above average quantity of nursing hours provided by nurses and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be somewhat below average. It administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 3.232324 percent of its patients. This is one statistic we'd like to see this nursing home improve. We were stunned with the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 5.54 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is more than twice the national average. This is definitely an alarming statistic.
