Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Colorado in this area with 67.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. You can't do much better than a deficiency-free inspection report.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our nursing category weighs several subcategories, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home offers high levels of nursing care, with an average of 3.9 hours per resident on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than most nursing homes provide. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls which lead to major injury, this place performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final category, this nursing home really did not fare very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category, this is clearly this nursing home's poorest category grade. Our long-term care grade is often used to measure a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. On top of offering respectable levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 98.314606 percent of its residents. These scores are notably more respectable than some of its other marks in this category. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
