Nurse Quality

Grade: C

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. There are a host of factors within this category. Many of the criteria relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next most respectable score is short-term care, but even there it received just a D in that area. This is still a relatively poor grade. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Considering its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Among this facility's alarming category grades was an F for its inspection grade. More often than not, this means we found some red flags on the facility's inspection reports. With facilities that received this bad of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility had 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received significant government fines recently amounting to more than $100,000. This typically signifies that a facility's poor track record spanned more than one year.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we graded was long-term care, where this nursing home received a very poor grade in this area as well. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 68.06722 percent of its patients. This is pretty significantly less than average. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
