Facility Inspections
On top of having a decent overall score, we also would like to point out that this nursing home received favorable health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area, with a B+. This is a notably better score than the nursing home's overall score. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a favorable grade in short-term care. This facility earned a B in this category, which happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, we found that this nursing home provided respectable levels of physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This place outperformed the majority of nursing homes in this area with 51.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. The nursing grade consists of many components, however, the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also factored some quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the last category we assessed. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category. In spite of several solid grades in other areas, this score is nevertheless disappointing so we wanted to point it out. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Although it had 2.13 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score wasn't bad since it had some more complicated patients.
