One of the reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. Our nursing score is primarily associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a resident at least once a day.

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given an impressive score of A in our short-term care category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most meaningful for individuals requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This turned out to be more of a strength for this nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Arizona in this area with 68.6 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, less than half of their short-stay patients are able to return home.

In the final category, this nursing home also was awarded a first-rate long-term care score, with a grade of A-. This topped off a very strong profile. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.37 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
