Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility's nursing score is more impressive than its overall grade. With a strong performance in this category, it earned one of our better scores in that category with a B+. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades was in the area of short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B. In determining our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is considered to be a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we graded is long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a solid grade of C. Long-term care scores are based on a nursing home's volume of nursing care. This includes a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average figure. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

In the final category of government inspections, we gave this nursing home a score of D for our inspection category. This proved to be this facility's worst grade. We take a weak score in this category very seriously. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. Generally, you should be most cautious when considering a facility with severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This particular nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed large government fines recently in excess of $50,000. This often indicates that inspectors became fed up after multiple years of bad health inspections.
