Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this nursing home's overall score, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's second highest area was long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. Long-term care grades are important for patients in need of personal care. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 84.01639 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly lower than the national average. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we look at the number of hours nurses commit to patients and the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we assessed is short-term care, where this facility was given a rock bottom score here as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely a major concern. Our short-term care grades are arguably more important for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Based on its abysmal score in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home offers significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
