Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Texas in this area with 74.5 percent of its residents returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Nursing ratings are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the country in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was long-term care. This first-rate facility also dominated in this area, in which we awarded it an A+. This wrapped up a flawless report card of A+'s. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information about this nursing home's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
