We awarded this nursing home one of our better scores in the area of nursing, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. When calculating a facility's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses are with patients and the skill levels of the nurses. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Finally, this place also performed very well in most of the quality measures we assessed. For example, it had a low number of patients sustaining both major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we gave this facility an B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Sadly, this facility's next highest score is long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat badly. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home vaccinated 97.36842 percent of its residents, which is an above average datapoint. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was far less favorable. Here we found that this place had 2.4 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.

Short-term Care Quality

Moving on to the final category, we gave this nursing home a D for our short-term care category. This is the nursing home's weakest category rating. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Given its grade in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 32.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
