This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Another strength of this nursing home is its strong grade in long-term care. We gave them one of our more favorable scores in that area, with a grade of A-. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.5 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care score. This is well below average in this category. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. With a grade this poor in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this facility was well below average in multiple staffing metrics we assess. The facility offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that it performed better in this area, with 51.8 percent of its residents returning home.

This nursing home's least impressive area was nursing, which is the final category we scored. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category. Even with multiple solid scores in other areas, this score is still concerning so we felt obligated to make a note of it. Our nursing grade assesses many data points, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place averaged only 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores hurt this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
