Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a list of deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Nursing scores are largely tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most facilities. While this place ranked poorly in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it performed admirably in some of our quality measures. In fact, it was above average in two of the areas we look at, with positive reviews for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Sadly, this facility's third best category is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 39.792385 percent of its patients, which is not a very encouraging sign. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.17 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is also a cause for concern.

The next category we graded was short-term care, where this facility was given an abysmal score here as well. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 30.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
