Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home an abysmal overall grade, we gave it a grade of C for our nursing category. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the number of hours nurses are with patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is not an impressive total. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to learn that this nursing home received a solid long-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a C in this category. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.32204 percent of its residents. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was not quite as favorable. Here we found that this facility had 2.43 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection rating where it received a lowly F. This often means we found some red flags on the inspections. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We suggest you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was assessed a category G through L deficiency, which are among the more severe deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies identified by inspectors had potential to cause actual harm to residents. In addition to having severe deficiencies, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is an abysmal score. Our short-term care scores are likely most important for people in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 26.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this facility's short-term care score.
