Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. While we determined this facility has a favorable quantity of nursing care provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be a bit slightly lower than we anticipated. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 81.25 percent of its patients. This is one statistic we'd love to see this nursing home improve. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home has earned near flawless government inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this area. Inspection scores are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. The nursing score assesses many factors, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these statistics. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in some of the quality measures we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility outpaced the national average. This is usually an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning patients to prevent bed sores.
Short-term Care Quality
In our last area, this facility also received an excellent short-term care rating, with a B+. This topped off a very strong profile. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed respectably with 45.3 percent of its residents returning home.
