In addition to receiving a poor overall score, we also gave this facility weak scores across the board in the various categories. In fact, it received a D for its nursing score, which was its best category. There are numerous datapoints within this grade. Most of the criteria are tied to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is slightly below average. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic pulled down this facility's nursing rating substantially.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's inspection score where it received a lowly F. This generally means we found some red flags on its inspection reports. For places with bad inspection scores, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular facility had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received significant government fines recently amounting to over $100,000. This usually signifies that a nursing home'sbad track record has been an issue for multiple years.

Another issue was the F this nursing home received in the category of short-term care. Short-term care grades are commonly used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home was well below average in multiple staffing metrics we focus on. The facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 16.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.

Long-term Care Quality

The last area we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the facility didn't perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 54.43038 percent of its patients. This is several points lower than average. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.44 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
