While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Additionally, we also would like to note that this nursing home was awarded impressive short-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B. This proved to be the facility's second highest score. Short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. This facility performed much better in the final datapoint we looked at in this category, which was the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 56.1 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing grades are primarily associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. With only 3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.

The last category we analyzed is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a poor score. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.8836 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
