We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this category with a grade of A-. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

We also gave this nursing home a strong grade in short-term care. This facility received a B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more impressive scores. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who returned home from this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities with 51.2 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home also received a strong grade in our nursing category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B in this area. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This place was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.

Switching gears to the last category, this facility was awarded an acceptable long-term care score of C. For residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.540146 percent of its residents. The last statistic we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 6.44 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
