While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this place still received a relatively favorable inspection report.

This nursing home's next highest area came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. Long-term care grades are pivotal for people needing personal care. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 83.57895 percent of its patients. The last statistic we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had a relatively high 3.67 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Neither its vaccination record nor its hospitalization rate were strengths for this nursing home in this category.

We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in nursing. In fact, we gave it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We assessed the skill-level of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home averages 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. This facility also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign in light of the fact that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.

The final category we analyzed is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is an abysmal score. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Given its poor grade, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 30.7 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
