Adding to its strong assessments in other areas, we awarded this facility a score of A- for our short-term care rating. Short-term care scores are critical for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. This means a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. When determining our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which more than an hour was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. In computing our nursing grades, we attach more significance to hours performed by registered nurses. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The final category we analyzed was long-term care. In this category, we gave this facility an above average grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
