While we did not give this nursing home a good overall score, we actually gave it a strong score in long-term care, where it earned a B. This is better than many nursing homes in this category. This helped an otherwise abysmal profile. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 86.16601 percent of its patients. This is slightly less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 3.62 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this area, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

Shockingly, this facility actually received a good score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a B for that category, which is one of our better grades. Few facilities that were this poor overall received multiple category grades of this caliber. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. There are several subcategories included in this area. Many of these subcategories reflect levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed admirably in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility offers enough nurses to assist its residents.

The final area we assessed is short-term care. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is an abysmal grade. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its poor grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 29.9 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below the national average.
