Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher scores in that area, with an A. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection scores are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a positive long-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of B in that category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 95.975235 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. The last statistic we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 1.79 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. Our nursing rating is based on many subcategories, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, although this place did not rank highly in terms of nursing hours, it performed much better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care, which was this facility's least impressive area. We gave it an F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Short-term care grades are typically used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 22.4 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
