Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this was still a relatively favorable inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this facility a grade of C for its long-term care score, which really isn't too bad of a score. Long-term care ratings are pivotal for prospective residents needing non-healthcare services such as personal care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home gave the vaccine to a relatively low 46.13526 percent of its residents. Unfortunately, its hospitalization rate was worse than we hoped. We found that this place had 2.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home's received an abysmal short-term care grade where it was given an F. With our short-term care rating, we seek to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. As you might expect, we discovered that this place provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 42.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated is nursing, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade in this area as well. We gave it an F in this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This place averaged just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
